August 2004
Summary of the third series of Open House meetings
June 29 and 30, 2004

A total of approximately 147 people attended the June 2004 Open Houses. The content of the meetings focused on alternatives screening criteria and disposition of the various proposed alternatives, including a recommendation that General Purpose Lanes (GPL 8 + Aux) and Express Lanes be carried forward for further consideration. The displays also included updates on the Express Lane Feasibility Study and the Santa Fe interchange. Representatives from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and its consultants, Wilson & Company and PBS&J, including experts in traffic management, transit and noise assessment, were available to talk with those who attended.

The two alternatives carried forward GPL 8 + Aux and the Express Lanes were plotted on corridor aerial maps and attendees were encouraged to identify key areas of concern and leave a written comment on the map associated with their concern.

Topics brought to the team’s attention included concerns about highway noise and effects of any future plans on the bike and pedestrian trails. Noise experts were on hand to explain the regulatory process and status of the noise impact study. A preliminary report on existing noise conditions was available for review. Bike enthusiasts sought assurance that the team would coordinate with bike groups and with local officials regarding future planning for the trails.

There were also comments regarding toll lanes, access ramp types, transit options and the possibility of an interchange at C-470 and Colorado,

In sum, no major points arose that required additional efforts to verify the alternative recommendations presented at this open house. The project will move forward with the original recommendations. A fourth series of open house meetings is planned for fall 2004.
